What Is Our Class All About?
Our class is a dynamic environment filled with opportunities for students to explore, integrate, and create. Simulated experiences, focused intent, and the impactful role of student choice help to guide student learning and play an ever-increasing role within our classroom.
The study of Greek and Latin through the lens of a historic culture frames our understanding of the English language. An analysis of classic and contemporary literature help to strengthen reading skill and appreciation. A concentrated period of grammatical study paves the way for application throughout the year. A writer's workshop helps to weave together opportunities for small-group and individual conferencing, meaningful feedback, and pointed instruction. Simulated experiences coupled with historical perspective and rigorous examination of informational texts buoy our understanding of history, and our understanding of the science relies on our internalization of the scientific method. The embedding of real-world experiences and situations involving mathematics allow for students to have a rich and rewarding mathematical experience while meeting their individual needs. The atmosphere of our classroom is as critical the learning that happens within it. Students are embraced for their inquisitiveness and are helped to continually pursue the personally interesting. Not knowing is as welcome as understanding and the role of personal reflection cannot be overstated. It is vital that the environment of our classroom be one where risk-taking is no longer scary but an exciting place to explore and expand our love of learning! |
